My Debut Novel
I’ve completed my first novel, an 87,000-word speculative psychological suspense novel with upmarket crossover appeal. The manuscript is complete and I’m currently seeking literary representation.
I’m keeping the title and full premise private for now. Not because I’m trying to be difficult, although that remains entirely possible. I just think some stories are better discovered before the internet has had a chance to explain them.
What I can say is this:
It begins with an impossible public event.
Everyone sees it.
Very quickly, people have to decide what they believe happened, what it means, and what they are willing to do about it.
At the center of the story is a woman carrying a private grief she has never really escaped, suddenly pulled into something much larger than herself.
The novel unfolds over five days and explores grief, certainty, media, crowds, belief, judgment, and the uncomfortable things people do when reality refuses to fit neatly into what they already think they know.
It is tense, character-driven, emotional, occasionally unsettling, and built around the kind of premise that makes you stop and think, “Wait. What if that actually happened?”
If you know me from my nonfiction books about empty nesting, this is a somewhat different neighborhood.
A darker one.
Current Status
The manuscript is complete and currently being considered by literary agents.
I’ll share the title, premise, and more about the story when the time is right.
Until then, I’m keeping a few things to myself.
Which, for me, is showing remarkable restraint.
