What’s your favorite Empty Nest fact?
Oct 22, 2023 by Anthony Damaschino
This is a funny question. I liken it to: What is your favorite word in the dictionary? There are so many facts and statistics in the book that I like. Chapter Three, titled The Average Empty Nester, is filled with statistics and facts about the demographics, finances, and attitudes of people in this unique stage in life.
If you didn’t know, there are 22.5 million Empty Nesters in America. I can’t help but think if only they each bought a book by yours truly. It’s a perennial group of people in that, every year, parents age out while a new flock of parents say bon voyage to their child leaving the nest and join the club.
The obvious follow-up to the perennial question is, what age are Empty Nesters? The average Empty Nester in the United States is 51 years old when their last child leaves the house. But the age range is quite broad. The Empty Nest age range spans over twenty years, from 45 years old to 65 years old. There are outliers, such as teen pregnancy parents and older couples with children later in life, such as a second or third marriage.
I can’t say the three facts above are my favorite, but they ground the whole discussion around Empty Nesters. By the way, Enthusiasm might be my favorite word.
